The Client’s Situation

Meridian Grand needed a clear view of the precautions supporting large events. Several visible safeguards were present, but important questions remained about occupancy, escape capacity, system records and event management.

Eon converted those uncertainties into a prioritised action plan with practical interim controls.

The Challenge

A large reported capacity had not been supported by current plans, measurements or a verified capacity calculation.

Unverified Capacity

The reported figure of 800 required evidence and should not be treated as an approved capacity.

Complex Event Layouts

Different floor and event layouts could affect travel distances and available escape capacity.

Missing Records

Evidence was unavailable for several important systems and management arrangements.

What Eon Did

We inspected the venue on 3 September 2026 and reviewed event spaces, stairs, final exits, fire doors, the kitchen and storage areas.

  • Escape routes, measurements and supplied plans
  • Alarm and emergency-lighting provisions
  • Fire doors and compartmentation
  • Firefighting equipment and kitchen precautions
  • A controlled register of 114 inspection photographs

What We Found

Visible precautions were present, but their suitability for the reported occupancy had not been demonstrated.

What Was Visible

Multiple exits, signs, alarm devices, emergency lighting, extinguishers and fire doors were present.

What Needed Verification

Floor capacities, escape measurements, system records, door performance and written event procedures required confirmation.

Professional Judgement

Overall risk was assessed as Substantial because a fire could affect many unfamiliar guests across two storeys.

What We Recommended

The venue received immediate interim controls alongside the evidence needed to close each action.

01

Confirm Safe Event Capacity

Obtain a suitable capacity assessment for each floor and relevant event layout.

02

Verify Plans and Escape Routes

Confirm current plans, measurements and the availability of all required exits.

03

Evidence Essential Systems

Obtain current alarm, emergency-lighting, fire-door and kitchen records.

04

Strengthen Event Management

Document staff roles, drills and arrangements for people who may need assistance.

The Outcome

Result

A Controlled Sixteen-Action Programme

Management received a complete assessment, summary, photographic evidence record and prioritised action plan.

Follow-up

Interim Controls Made Explicit

Until evidence is complete, escape routes and essential systems should be checked before each event.

Support After the Assessment

Eon remains available to explain the findings, review additional information and support action close-out.
